Tribute to Zahida Parveen
Born in Amritsar in 1925, Zahida Parveen received her early musical education from Ustad Baba Taj Kapurthala, Ustad Hussain Bakhsh Khan learned the secrets of singing from Sarangi Nawaz of Amritsar, and later became a student of Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan of Patiala. His teachers include Akhtar Ali Khan.
Zahida Parveen’s unique style of singing coffee distinguishes her in all the voices of her time. He blended coffee into classical music and presented it in such a way that it became his means of identity, position and status.
Zahida, who is known to people today because of Shahida Parveen’s mother, was a great singer. He was well versed in coffee, lyrics, songs and semi-classical music. You may have heard many of his songs. On the one hand, Saleem Gilani’s “Beeti Rut Na Mane Umriya Beit Gayi”, then Saif Sahib’s famous ghazal “Murree Dastan-e-Hasrat Woh Sana Sana Ke Roye”
